BURLINGTON — Marathon Health, a provider of onsite health centers that enable employers to optimize the health of their workforce and business, today announced the appointment of Larry Morrissey as vice president for government relations. In this role, Morrissey will expand the company’s services to public sector clients and direct government relations at the local, state and national level.
Morrissey, a three-term mayor of Rockford, Ill., was introduced to Marathon Health during the city’s selection process for a worksite health center partner to serve the healthcare needs of its employees. During his tenure as mayor, Morrissey moved the city’s health fund from a $3 million deficit to an over $8 million reserve in 2012, which helped the city open its Health and Wellness Center in 2014.
In addition to direct experience in worksite health, Morrissey’s experience driving individual and community health outcomes includes the city becoming the first in America to achieve the “functional zero” definition for ending Veteran Homelessness in December 2015. At Marathon Health, Morrissey will use his broad experience to drive value-added partnerships that help public and private employers improve health outcomes for their respective populations.
“My interest in this role came from my first hand experience seeing Marathon Health transform the health of our employee population and provide value by creating a healthier workforce and lowering overall healthcare spend,” said Morrissey. “Marathon Health holds itself accountable for bottom line results. I am thrilled to join a company of this caliber.”
Morrissey, who graduated cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law and magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame, has been a featured speaker in local, state, national, and international venues on a wide breadth of topics. He will leverage his years of executive leadership and regulatory experience to develop national strategies for government sector sales.
“We believe that the unique talent and experience that Larry Morrissey brings, coupled with his knowledge of Marathon Health, government relations and health center operations, make him an ideal candidate to help us grow our public sector business,” said Marathon Health CEO Jerry Ford. “Morrissey’s vision for healthy communities and his expertise working with all levels of private and public sector decision-makers make him an asset to our organization.”
